First visit to Green Mosque will be after about 2 hours driving from Istanbul to Bursa thru Osmangazi bridge. The Green Mosque, commissioned by Sultan Mehmet I Çelebi and finished in 1424. The complex consists of a mosque, türbe, madrasah, kitchen and bath. The name Green Mosque comes from its green and blue interior tile decorations.
After a short walk to the main building in the old Bursa Silk Market (Koza Han) you will learn how it was once filled with silk artisans who traded caftans (long garments of clothing) to Turkish Sultans. It is silk market with long history going back to 1491 and beautiful two story structure. Then, gain insight into how Bursa was the final stop on the famous Silk Road.
